This post is one of the most important things that you can do. It is cheap, it is easily storable, it may mean saving EVERYTHING.
Fire extinguishers... isn’t it always the case that you hope you never need them, but when and if you do, it seems they have lost pressure or don’t work? They are expensive to keep on hand and charged, especially if you put them in all your outbuildings or even bedrooms and kitchen.
Did you know that baking soda will put out and extinguish most all fires quickly and without much clean up? It’s cheap and available in big bags, especially in the pool season. It doesn’t matter if it’s a chimney fire or a grease fire. Just throw it on. It will suffocate it out.
I reuse plastic containers and try to have them all over with baking soda in them. Something you can quickly “grab and go” and you don’t need to worry about if its going to work when you pull the pin.
As always be safe and look at the situation. Don’t put yourself in danger, but many times you have a reaction time, and the first response can make a big difference in the outcome. When things happen and the adrenaline is flowing and the brain is not thinking clearly, it’s pretty easy to throw baking soda.
